Trail Of Tears

The Trail of Tears crosses the southern most part of Illinois. Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw and other tribes were forced from their homes in the east and the south and forced to migrate to Oklahoma in 1839. The Trail of Tears enters Illinois at Golconda on its route to Missouri.
